Our Story

Longina Phillips Designs is a Sydney-based print and surface pattern design studio specialising in seamless repeat patterns for fashion, homeware, and beyond.

Our philosophy at LPD is to empower creativity through artistry and craftsmanship delivering personalised, high-quality design solutions. Through close collaboration with brands, designers, and creatives across every market, we craft versatile, timeless designs that don't just follow trends, they set them.

Founded 1988

Longina Phillips, or Lola as we know her, founded LPD in Sydney, Australia, in 1988.  A time before mobile phones, Photoshop, or readily accessible internet. Design was deliberate, and entirely by hand. That foundation of patience and craft is something we carry with us to this day.

In 1993, we moved into our studio in Surry Hills, and we've called it home ever since. What began as one woman's vision has grown into a globally recognised studio with over three decades of industry experience behind it.

Experts in Art + Fashion

When we started, every single design was hand-drawn and we are proud to carry that tradition forward. Artistry is still at the heart of everything we do. The difference today is that we also have Photoshop to bring our hand-painted illustrations into seamless repeat, allowing us to work faster without ever compromising on the quality and soul of the original artwork.

Over 35 years, we have adapted to wave after wave of technological change embracing computers and digital tools early on, and continuing to evolve as the industry demands. What has never changed is our commitment to original, hand-crafted design.

In 2014 we launched The Print School to share our expertise in print design with the next generation of designers. It has since grown into a thriving creative community.

A Studio Full of Stories

Our studio has grown and evolved in ways we never could have anticipated. We have welcomed and farewelled many talented faces along the way, been joined by the occasional furry studio companion, and travelled the world attending trade shows and visiting our customers in person.

We have also weathered everything life has thrown at us floods, a global pandemic, and more than one catastrophic server crash. Each time, we've come back stronger, more resilient, and still creating.

Most recently, we are delighted to celebrate a new chapter: the passing of the baton to Sara Phillips, who has stepped into her role as Director as Lola moves into a well-earned retirement. The studio's creative vision and founding values are in the best possible hands.

We have been honoured to work with more than 1,000 fashion and homeware brands over the years, from emerging local labels we have watched flourish and grow, to some of the world's most iconic global names.

The founder of LPD, Lola had the creative vision which started it all.
